Naomi McDuffie is one of the latest DC heroes to hit it excellent in the comics and other media. A young actress named after an iconic comic book creator, Naomi’s story in many ways relates to and reflects that of Superman. This has seen her communicating with the Man of Steel in her own stories, which she is also set to do in a new live-action TV series.
Coming from another dimension inundated with radiation, Naomi is the last daughter of her now moribund world. Upon discovering her innate superpowers, she reaches a young heroine tied to Young Justice and the Justice League.

Who is Naomi of Washington?
Naomi first appeared in the first issue of the book of the same name. Naomi McDuffie, created by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell, took her last name in honor of the late Milestone Comics founder Dwayne McDuffie. Their story begins years earlier in an alternate universe where radiation exposure gives people incredible powers. This led to a war between these new Metalids, who was evil and killed their supposed rivals.
Naomi was the daughter of two of these metals, and her birth attracted the attention of the criminal metahuman Zumba. To save their daughter’s life, Naomi’s parents sent her to the DC Prime universe but did not survive her encounter with Zumba. Upon her arrival, Naomi was found by a Rannian named Greg McDuffie, who pretended to be human and adopted the girl and his wife.
How Is Naomi Connected To Superman?
The device also brought Zumbado, who attacked Naomi and took her to her now doomed home dimension. Narrowly defeating him, Naomi returned to her natural home of Prime Earth, where she coincidentally went into Superman. Obliged for his help, Naomi was taken to the office of the Justice League, resulting in several tests being run on her. Though their time fighting beside each other would initially be brief, Superman was something of a guide toward Naomi and her liaison into her future team of the Justice League.
After meeting, she would finally gain the title of Powerhouse, reflecting that she had powers and skills far beyond those of mortal men and women. Though her relationship with Superman has not been incredibly close since they have met, their apparent similarities with each other remain a firm part of Naomi’s origin story.
